AMD Ryzen 5 9600X3D Leak Hints at Entry-Level 3D V-Cache Gaming CPU Launching Later This Year

AMD is preparing to expand its lineup of gaming-optimized processors with the upcoming Ryzen 5 9600X3D, a new entry-level desktop CPU featuring the company’s highly acclaimed 3D V-Cache technology. The chip was recently listed in AMD’s official driver release notes for its latest Radeon RX 9070, 9070 XT, 9060 XT, and Radeon AI PRO R9700 graphics cards.

The Ryzen 5 9600X3D joins several other unreleased processors, including entries from the Ryzen 9000 PRO series, confirming AMD's continuing development on its Zen 5 and AM5 platform ecosystem.

Gaming Performance Boost with 3D V-Cache

AMD’s X3D chips are already popular among gamers due to their performance-boosting 3D V-Cache, which dramatically increases L3 cache size. This allows the CPU to access game data faster, resulting in improved frame rates and smoother gameplay.

The Ryzen 5 9600X3D is expected to follow the same formula, delivering a budget-friendly entry point for gamers seeking next-gen performance. While exact specs have not been confirmed, it's likely the 9600X3D will mirror the specs of the standard Ryzen 5 9600X, including:

  • 6 cores / 12 threads

  • Boost clock up to 5.2 GHz

  • 65W TDP

  • 32 MB base L3 cache, plus an additional 64 MB of 3D V-Cache, totaling 96 MB

This makes it a strong contender for gamers and PC builders aiming for high performance without the premium pricing of higher-end X3D chips.

Release Timeline & Availability

According to tech leaker MelodicWarrior (@MelodicWarrior1 on X), the Ryzen 5 9600X3D will be made available to system integrators first, with a wider DIY market release expected between late Q3 and early Q4 of 2025.

More CPUs on the Horizon

The same driver update also confirms other upcoming processors:

  • Ryzen 5 9600 – a lower-tier version of the 9600X, quietly released earlier this year.

  • Ryzen 9000 PRO series – Four new workstation-class CPUs were listed:

    • Ryzen 9 PRO 9945

    • Ryzen 7 PRO 9745

    • Ryzen 5 PRO 9645

    • Ryzen 5 PRO 9400

These PRO models are aimed at enterprise and professional workloads, though details on whether they’re based on Granite Ridge (Zen 5) architecture remain unconfirmed.

Ryzen 7 9700F Spotted

Adding to the upcoming CPU lineup, the Ryzen 7 9700F was recently discovered in AGESA microcode 1.2.0.3e support documents. The “F” suffix, reminiscent of Intel’s naming scheme, suggests the chip lacks integrated graphics (iGPU). It's expected to feature 8 cores and 16 threads, like the standard Ryzen 7 9700, and may target budget-conscious gamers who rely on discrete GPUs, likely at a lower price point.

Takeaway:
With the Ryzen 5 9600X3D, AMD continues to push the envelope in gaming performance—this time, bringing 3D V-Cache technology to a more accessible tier. Combined with upcoming PRO and F-series chips, AMD’s Ryzen 9000 lineup looks set to cover a broad range of needs, from gaming enthusiasts to professional workstations.
